CBD FAQs & Facts
Is CBD legal?
The CBD used in all Lys products is derived from industrial hemp and contains less than 0.3% THC. Sourced in this manner, CBD is legal to sell in the United States.
Will CBD show up on a drug test?
Most drug tests check for the presence of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). Lys products contain less than 0.3% THC, a trace amount, and therefore is unlikely to show up on a drug test.
Does CBD have psychotropic effects?
Lys CBD products contain CBD derived from hemp which contains less than 0.3% THC, a trace amount. Lys CBD products should not have the psychotropic effects (the "high" associated with THC-containing strains of cannabis) on the user.
Does CBD have side effects?
Side effects of CBD are minor. When taken in high quantities, some have reported drowsiness while others have reported stomach discomfort.
Why Pair CBD and Chocolate?
Chocolate contains anandamide. Anandamide is a brain produced neurotransmitter which was discovered in the 1990s. Aptly named for the sanskrit word ananda which means 'joy, bliss, or happiness', anandamide is known as the "bliss molecule".
Anandamide is an endocannabinoid that binds with cannabinoid receptors to affect areas of the brain associated with memory, motivation, higher thought processes, and motor skills control. It plays a part in the sensation of pain and appetite and may even curb the proliferation of active cancer cells. The combination of CBD and anandamide are thought to have an entourage effect, meaning the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
CBD versus Big Pharma
Both CBD and pharmaceutical drugs such as anti-inflammatory and anti-depressants can both modulate the 5-HTIA receptors in the brain to reduce pain and inflammation, reduce anxiety, and improve mood. Unlike pharmaceutical drugs, CBD may achieve this without dangerous side effects that can be associated with pharmaceutical drugs and is non-toxic. At its worst, the side effects of CBD can be nausea, fatigue and sometimes irritability.
Renowned Properties of CBD
CBD is thought to aid in/as reduction of inflammation, pain relief, anti-anxiety, anti-depressant, antiemetic and antioxidant. CBD has also been thought to aid in modulation of sleep disorders.
Full Spectrum vs Broad Spectrum
Lys CBD uses full spectrum hemp-derived wet-extracted CBD.
Full Spectrum CBD contains the 113 cannabinoids found in the naturally occurring hemp plant in addition to vitamins A, C, and B, minerals zinc, potassium, iron, calcium, and phosphorus as well as a host of terpenes*. Full spectrum CBD has trace amounts of THC, but less than .3% as required by law.
In short...full spectrum contains terpenes, cannabinoids, flavonoids and fatty acids found in hemp, all of which are said to have therapeutic values of their own and work together to magnify these values of each cannabinoid which is commonly referred to as the "entourage effect".
Broad Spectrum CBD, like full spectrum CBD, contains all of the compounds found within hemp plants, but during the extraction the THC is completely removed.
Hemp Versus other Varieties of Cannabis
The difference between hemp and other varieties of cannabis that have more of a psychotropic or euphoric effect is very often confused, but in regard to CBD it is an important difference in how they relate to the cannabis industry in use and legality.
Hemp refers to varieties of cannabis that contain 0.3% or less of THC. This legal definition was legitimized with the passage of the Agricultural Act of 2018. Hemp has been used for thousands of years in thousands of products including paper, building materials, textiles, and food. Hemp is again 100% legal throughout the United States. Lys sources and uses hemp-derived CBD.
Psychotropic Varieties of Cannabis refers to varieties of cannabis that contain more than 0.3% THC and can be used to induce euphoric and psychotropic effects on the user. These varieties of cannabis are not legal in every state in the United States due to their levels of THC and are still considered a controlled substance and are federally illegal under the Controlled Substance Act. Lys does not use psychotropic varieties of cannabis to derive our CBD.
*Terpenes are other organic compounds contained in plants which contribute to the aromas a plant has and are also biosynthetic building blocks.
